Last week, the U.K. said it endorses U.S. regulation of Internet gambling as opposed to prohibition. "The British Government has signaled quite clearly its support for regulation rather than prohibition of gambling by the recent implementation of the (Unlawful Internet) Gambling Act," said Emily Bourne, private secretary of the British Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
For at least a year, the British government has been seeking international support for legalized, regulated online gambling, emphasizing a trans-Atlantic difference on the issue after the Bush administration's move to outlaw transactions with Internet gambling services.
According to Jeffrey Sandman, spokesman for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, it is clear that the approach by the U.S. to prohibit Internet gambling is a failure. "Regulation of Internet gambling could bring the U.S. into compliance with WTO requirements, protect consumers and generate billions in revenue needed for critical government programs," said Sandman.
A number of companies with international operations -- including Hop-on -- are also supporting the roll-back of the draconian law, passed in the waning days of the failed Republican Congress last fall.
Peter Michaels, President of Hop-on stated, “The British Government wants regulation because the tax dollars that would go back to their government is in the billions of dollars. The United States should protect this windfall of billions from leaving the U.S.," said Peter Michaels, president of Hop-On, a wireless service provider, targeting the cyber-gaming world, based in Irvine, Calif.

Wireless Gambling Grows
As the only American handset manufacturer currently developing software, licensing and regulations for online gambling via mobile phones, Hop-on, Inc. said market demand for wireless Internet gaming is "growing."By accepting bets from both the U.S. and other WTO counties, Hop-on will keep billions of tax dollars flowing back to the American government while ensuring its customers can wager in the most secure, easy-to-operate environment, said Michaels.
Michaels added, “I have not heard of any American being arrested for making a bet via the Internet for playing poker. Using a Hop-on’s software, people will be able to play poker via their cell phones, anywhere.”
Hop-On (OTC:HPNN) develops and markets wireless phones and accessories for emerging market and other domestic carriers and is best known for developing the world’s first disposable cell phone to market.
