Each week, we conduct a survey, asking our readers about issues that affect them as online gamblers. As you might imagine, the answers to the questions asked in the survey produce some intriguing results.

This month we have asked readers if they prefer to play downloadable or browser-based online casino software: the result, a near even split between the two. Of those that preferred browser-based games, however, their specific preferences came in three distinct flavors. Flash is the most popular non-download casino software (22%), followed by shockwave (16%), with Java games close on Shockwave’s heals (13%). What does this mean? It could be an indicator that players are wagering from behind firewalls or on PCs that block software downloads. It may also indicate that the play quality of browser-based software, especially if that software is in Flash or Shockwave, is finally catching up with the play quality of downloadable software. Either way, It looks like browser-based gaming is on the rise.

Our readers have also shown strong opinions this month about their slot preferences. 69% have announced that they enjoyed playing both progressive and non-progressive slot machines, while only 12% of all gamblers surveyed were exclusively progressive players. It looks like most slot fiends are up for all flavors of the game. There is however a significant minority of players, 19%, which stay away from progressive machines completely.

Bonus seekers had their vote on the www.gamblingonlinemagazine.com website last month as well. 67% of players said they were happy with the standard cash bonus at signup, while 19% prefered the more exotic, yet often advantageous retrospective cash back on losses bonus structure. As signup bonus dollars begin to peek at the $300 mark, we can expect to see more and more people looking for innovative bonus structures that better fit their style of play.

Finally, GamblingOnlineMagazine.com found that more than half of the gamblers participating in its polls believed that America’s favorite pastime, Major League Baseball, was worth laying a bet on. Interestingly however, 14% qualified that statement by saying that MLB was worth the bet only because they couldn’t wait for the football to come around! Another 16% believed that MLB was only worth a bet if you were an MLB betting sharp; which many handicappers believe is the case because MLB isn’t given as much attention as NFL and NBA by the bookmakers. This means that a sharp bettor can get an edge over the bookies while they slack off on their summer vacation!
