Indian Reservation Casino Gambling Comes of Age
...and is taking over management responsibility of the facility from the Las Vegas entertainment conglomerate. The move is not a surprise, really. The casino has had massive growth, of more than 15% per year for the last decade, and the tribe wants to keep more of the revenue for itself.
“We have come a long way since opening this casino,” said tribal chairwoman Tracy Stanhoff. “This is yet another important step along our nation’s continued path to toward economic self-sufficiency.”
Stanhoff said the tribal council already is already planning to add shops and may also move its famed bingo parlor inside the main facility.
Mystery Jackpot
The casino is undertaking a major marketing campaign to promote the new management. Stanhoff said the casino’s “Superstrike Mystery Jackpot” will hand out an estimated $140,000 through Sept. 4 to scores of lucky players.Players using a casino player’s club card at the casino are eligible to win "random jackpots" several times daily from $25 to $500. Several players are expected to claim progressive jackpots that will start at $5,000.
New Technology
The casino is also employing new technology to bolster its offerings -- the “Lucky Coin” technology is patented by industry leader International Game Technology.No other Missouri casinos use IGT’s software, experts said.
Tribe's Take
Tribal casino gambling revenues grew at a pace of 11% in 2006, to a record $25.5 billion, according to the annual Indian Gaming Industry Report by Alan Meister, an economist of the Analysis Group, based in Los Angeles.Completing a 10-year run of 15 percent average growth that followed an initial eight years of 64 percent average growth, last year marked tribal gambling’s slowest year since the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act launched the industry in 1988, according to a new report.
