The U.S.-based company can offer online gambling services in Europe now, but is looking to expand it here in the U.S.
The former CEO of Partygaming, Mitch Garber, is now head of Internet operations and the company's World Series of Poker division. Garber’s former company, Party Poker, was a Title sponsor of the World Series of Poker.
Hiring an internet heavy weight like Garber would permit Harrah’s to create a big online presence in preparation for an opening of the lucrative U.S. market, according to experts.
Harrah’s weighed in the past the possibility of establishing World Series of Poker (WSOP) branded sites in jurisdictions that online gambling is flourishing, such as certain parts of Europe and the Caribbean. The firm has even been rumored to weigh the possibility of sale of the WSOP brand in order to avoid filing for bankruptcy.
Gary Loveman, Harrah’s Entertainment CEO, has great expectations about changes in the law. He claims that U.S. citizens have the right of freedom with their money especially when it comes to Internet gambling. Frank is preparing to launch his attack on the UIGEA in the House of Representatives.
